Platform

Siemens' Industrial Edge system is composed of several interconnected areas, including devices, connectors, data management and applications for analytics and more. To ensure all pieces work together, the data management platform is very important.

This platform consists of the three core components that create a simple workflow to manage distributed IT infrastructure.

• Industrial Edge Hub (IEH): This is a centralized repository providing access to all available edge apps from Siemens and other ecosystem partner applications.
• Industrial Edge Management (IEM): This tool provides on-premise control to manage all devices, apps and users. Whether you have a global Industrial Edge roll out with multiple shop floors, or just one shop floor, you can manage everything from one central location.
• Industrial Edge Runtime: This a software layer on industrial devices that executes containerized applications.

System model

The Industrial Edge system provides a secure and accessible foundation for collecting data directly from machines. It then allows users to process, contextualize and analyze that data to improve all aspects of production and manufacturing.

What's available?

Implementing an industrial edge system on any shop floor can be a complex undertaking; especially when you have disparate machine types and brands using different protocols. Siemens' Industrial Edge product portfolio brings together a suite of interoperable products that help solve for this complexity.

Solution bundles
We offer solution bundles that solve for specific use cases — helping to take the guessing out of what you need to purchase. These bundles offer products that are most commonly needed and are flexible for many uses. Use these bundles as a starting point that allows you to prove out the use case and then scale factory-wide and beyond.

App development

Industrial Edge applications are available directly from Siemens or from business partners and third-party vendors. It is also possible to develop your own apps. You can use any high-level language like Python, Node.js, C++ and Java, as well as our Mendix low-code development environment, to develop new apps, virtualize them as Docker images and run them on different Edge devices.

AI applications
